Market Analysis

The SP500 Indicator has turned RED, issuing a clear warning: a pullback is likely, or a new downtrend could be emerging.
Interestingly, this shift occurred without a prior Bearish Impulse or Distribution, which we only recently identified in the weekly analysis.

Two factors may explain this unusual pattern:
1. The Fed’s rate cut was well anticipated, allowing investors to prepare, spread out trades, and rotate capital gradually.
2. Money is not exiting the market entirely but rotating from Growth into Value and Small-Caps.

This suggests we are not witnessing a panic sell-off, but rather a rotational correction with potential pullbacks. Expect choppiness to dominate the coming weeks.

The first Fed rate cut of 2025 triggered a volatile session. Immediately after the announcement, the YM and RTY broke to new highs—only to reverse quickly. With the NQ underperforming relative to the RTY, the rotation away from the MAG10 became visible, just as we anticipated yesterday.
Could this be the beginning of the end for MAG10 dominance?

MAG10

In the combined MAG10 chart, the uptrend remains intact, with the channel holding firmly. Yet, weakness is emerging in individual names. NVIDIA (NVDA) and AMD have struggled since early August. After strong outperformance last week, Broadcom turned into one of yesterday’s biggest laggards. In contrast, Google is clearly in an upcycle, supported by a favorable antitrust ruling, rising AI momentum, and strong financial results. Tesla, the most anti-cyclical of the group, also surged following Elon Musk’s massive insider purchases.

Sector Rotation

Yesterday showed a mixed picture: Technology and Industrials declined, while Financials and Staples gained. The rest of the market remained largely sideways.

Market Outlook

With two more rate cuts expected in 2025, the Fed is signaling a balanced approach: easing to support a weakening labor market and slowing economy, while still watching sticky inflation.

Overall, the outlook remains cautiously optimistic. Expect moderate growth and gradual rate relief, but not without turbulence. Resilience (solid balance sheets, defensive positioning) and selective exposure to growth with clear earnings visibility appear to be the prevailing strategy.

  • Volatility to persist: Markets will likely stay jittery amid shifting data, policy moves, and inflation surprises (BlackRock).
  • Modest upside for equities: Forecasts point to moderate gains into late 2025, but runaway growth looks unlikely (Transamerica, Morningstar).
  • Value gaining appeal: Value stocks may outperform as earnings expectations cool or valuations stretch (American Century).
  • Sector dynamics: Industrials, financials, and materials may benefit if growth holds, while defensives remain attractive against slowdown risks. AI/Tech continues to dominate, albeit with challenges in valuation, execution, and regulation (BlackRock).
