How It Works
Quarterly Selection
Every quarter, all insiders are evaluated on their trailing 2-year performance. The top 50 by composite rating become "active".
Trade Signal
When an active insider files a BUY with the SEC, it enters our pipeline. Filing typically occurs 2 days after transaction.
Portfolio Entry
We enter on filing date + 1 business day at closing price — the earliest a real follower could act.
Exit Rules
Exit when insider sells same ticker, or after 252-day max hold. Open positions survive trader deactivation.
Trade Flow Example
No Lookahead Bias
At each quarterly evaluation, only trades with filing_date ≤ evaluation_date are visible. A trade filed on Jan 3 is invisible for a Jan 1 selection. Traders who become good later cannot retroactively enter the portfolio.
Rating Formula
Sigmoid-weighted, trade count penalty for <30 trades. Converted to 0.5–5.0 star scale.
Portfolio Parameters
Trader Rotation
Traders who improve over time are added to the active pool. Traders who deteriorate are removed. However, open positions from removed traders stay in the portfolio until their natural exit (sell signal or max hold) — this avoids unnecessary churn and forced liquidation.
